How to Rebuild an Engine


Determine Intake Lobe Centerline

  1. Place dial indicator on #1 intake lobe
    • Tools needed: Dial indicator

  2. Rotate engine counterclockwise until you achieve maximum lift
    • This is the point at which the degree wheel changes direction

  3. Zero dial indicator
    • Tools needed: Dial indicator

  4. rotate engine counterclockwise .050"
    • Record reading on degree wheel
    • Go past then return to remove slack in chain
    • Tools needed: Degree wheel
    • Tools needed: Dial indicator

  5. Rotate engine .100" clockwise
    • Record reading on degree wheel
    • Go past then return to remove slack in chain
    • Tools needed: Degree wheel
    • Tools needed: Dial indicator

  6. Add both readings together and divide by 2
    • This number is your intake lobe centerline
