BPM made simpler

Where to maintain task and process information is a question with many answers. Typically we use what we have on our desktop or laptop to create and edit the data. For example, MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, you name it.

Then we store the information on a company server, web site or intranet. Again many choices all around. Here are a few guidelines that can help organize your process and task information for easier maintenance and updating.

For simple policies and procedures:

  • MS Word, PDFs
  • Use Bookmarks to locate specific information with hyperlinks to speed access and accuracy

Task information

  • MS Excel and Excel add-ins
  • Narrative descriptions of guidelines and instructions can also be stored in MS Word and bookmarked
  • Drive the maintenance down to the task owner, and ensure the information is kept up to date. See example below

Process information

  • Visio or Visio add-in such as TaskMap 
  • Other visual mapping tools such as PowerPoint, Coreldraw, Smartdraw etc.
