One alternative to using the decision diamond symbol to represent decisions is to use the Task shape itself. The example below shows the benefits of using the Task shape for the decision point in the the process. These are:
- The Task Link (outcome) is crystal clear
- All roles and supporting information about the decision are included in the shape itself
- Multiple outcomes from the decision are easily modeled and shown without having to resort to multiple decision diamonds
- The flow of the map (left to right) is maintained making it easier to read
- More information can be presented without confusing the reader
- Color can be used to show primary outcomes and exception paths
- The reader is led back to other locations to show what action to take
