Time keeps on ticking …ticking, ticking … into the future. A line from a Steve Miller song in the seventies. We look at time many different ways in our lives, quality time, down time, time management. There often seems like there is either not enough of it, or it’s poorly allocated.
When we don’t have enough we often get frustrated, deadlines appear unobtainable or unrelenting and our decision making process is affected.
Since my early twenties I have used this phase to help me and others think about time.
There are ONLY two variables in life. Time and how you use it.
Whether contemplating your naval on the beach and reflecting on your life, or in the middle of an important project to meet a deadline, this phrase continues to remind me that I have some control over how I manage my time, and have none in the passage of each minute.
Super organized individuals will break their day into 15 minute activities, cramming each moment into decision making, review and oversight situations. This often makes the lives of those around them very frenetic, subordinates knowing that every interaction with them is on a time fuse.
Others seem to be able to allocate the right amount of time to meet all important communication and prioritization of activities. Making some decisions quickly, and deliberating over others more cautiously.
Consider your use of time in your life and your projects. While you may work more efficiently for short bursts of time to take up the slack, in the long run the race goes to the slow and steady manager who manages their time and their life.
