Process maps have a lifecycle of their own, but is often not recognized by those authoring, reviewing or receiving them. Here is the cycle as we see it.
For each step of the Lifecycle you may want to increase or reduce to the amount of information available to the audience involved. For example:
- Discovery of existing processes. Many individuals may be involved in the data collection process.
- Review of existing processes. Team leaders, managers and Subject Matter Experts approve the existing processes.
- Publishing of existing and current processes. Everyone who needs to see and be involved with this process will see these maps.
- Analyzing and improving processes. Additional fields such as time thresholds, risks and mitigation strategies will be used for these activities. In addition Business Analysts, Subject Matter Experts and others are likely to be involved in this process.
