BPM made simpler

If you are starting your first BPM project, particularly if you are taking a leadership role, then getting organized may be your first challenge. As you will probably be using a file server or document management system for storing the files, (such as SharePoint shown below), here are some pointers to get started.

Getting organized

  1. Set up a folder structure for the following categories:
    • Processes under development (the team’s work in progress)
    • Processes ready for review (a wider group for testing and approval of the processes)
    • Released processes (The processes published to the intended audience, released and supported by the team in place)
  2. Keep the structure simple and put it on a shared server, ensure that access to individual groups is in accordance with their roles as outlined in #1.
  3. If you have the opportunity to use revision control automatically, (most document management systems have this feature), use it to track versions. Otherwise set up a revision control numbering scheme for the team (e.g. v0.01) as an addendum to the file name.
