Hyperlinking to TaskMap Pages

Refer to Overview of TaskMap Hyperlink Dialog for general information about the hyperlink dialog.

It is critical to understand how absolute and relative hyperlinks function before you create TaskMap hyperlinks. Refer to Choosing a Link Type for background information.

Hyperlink TaskMap Dialog

For TaskMap-type links, the TaskMap Hyperlink dialog looks like this example:

If you have opened the hyperlink dialog for a Connector or Sub-process Task ID, four of the Hyperlink Types will be grayed-out and only the TaskMap link type will be available as shown below.

Links within the Current TaskMap

To hyperlink to another Page in the current TaskMap:

  1. In the center of the hyperlink dialog, click the radio button next to TaskMap (if it is not already selected).
    • If you would like to copy an existing hyperlink from elsewhere in this TaskMap, click the Copy previously defined link button and skip to step 6, otherwise continue.
  2. The Location box will show the name of the current TaskMap; do not change this.
  3. Click on the down arrow to the right of the Page box and select the target page.
  4. (Optional) Click on the down arrow to the right of the Task box to view all Tasks on the target page; select the target Task.
  5. (Optional) Click on the down arrow to the right of the Zoom box and select a zoom factor:
    • Default zoom displays the page at the same zoom factor as the last time it was viewed.
    • Width displays the full width of the target page
    • Page displays the entire page
    • 50% to 400% centers the page on the target Task (if any) and displays it at the selected zoom factor.
  6. (Optional) Check Open page in new window? if you would like the target page to open in a new Visio window (or a new browser window if you save your TaskMap as a web page).
  7. Select Relative or Absolute Path to TaskMap (refer to Choosing a Link Type).
  8. The Description field defaults to the name of the target page and the target Task ID. You may change the description to a different value if you prefer.
  9. Click Apply or Apply and Close.

Hint: Visio allows you to apply more than one hyperlink to any object on the page. Click the New button and create an additional link to add another hyperlink to the list.

Links to a Different TaskMap

To establish a link to a Task and Page in a different TaskMap drawing, i.e., one in a physically separate file, follow the instructions above, but in step 1 click the browse button to the right of the Location box to navigate to the target document.
