So it’s a new day and a new project. You have been introduced to the team, and the goals for the project. Now it’s time to get acquainted with your team.
Sometimes it’s easier in Business Process Management project to have new team members you don’t know; perhaps they represent groups you will be working with; or an assigned business analyst. Either way you need to get to know them quickly, including learning about their skills and capabilities.
Good ways to make this happen in both formal and informal ways are:
- Ensure everyone knows how best to contact you and when you will be available.
- Set up informal “brown bag” lunches without a project specific agenda just to share ideas and information.
- Find out their strengths and weaknesses in the communication area: Email, verbal presentations, reports, etc.
- Are they really behind the project goals, or have they been “assigned” to help without really understanding what the project is all about?
- Do they have more or different skills that could be used to greater benefit in the project?
- Can they mentor less experienced members in the team in a supervisory or buddy role?
These are a few ideas that can help you get to know the team yourself, and mold them quickly into a team members with purpose.
