Someone recently made me ponder the difference was between being undefeatable and undefeated.
Few of us go through, I could say none of us, go through life undefeated. We lose a battle, mess something up, come second in a two team game. It happens. Observers smarter than me, and all historians and psychologists I know consistently say it’s how we react to defeat that matters.
At times, we will lose several games in a row, perhaps our project is going downhill, the new puppy has just pooped all your favorite rug again and its been raining for four days straight. Even small defeats affect us, however its here that the important differentiation between these words occurs. Being undefeatable is the courage, willingness and enthusiasm to try again.
Many studies have been done in recent times to prove that failing is a useful learning process, in business, with your job on the line, this may seem less so. I guess the point is, staying strong when things go wrong shows character and leadership. I am not talking about the keep doing the same thing and failing, but that power that exists that brings us back to our feet to fight another day.
